The Hemel en Aarde Valley is located in the picturesque Western Cape Province of South Africa, famous for its wine production and captivating landscapes. The valley has a rich history dating back to the indigenous Khoikhoi people, and it was named by Dutch settlers who were mesmerized by its beauty. They referred to it as "heaven and earth."
At Stillwater Sanctuary, sustainability is embedded into the property. We've taken steps to reduce our environmental footprint by installing solar panels and sourcing water from a borehole (well). Our furniture and materials are locally crafted in Cape Town, ensuring the finest quality while supporting local artisans. The art in each space was created bespoke by local artists.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards, the first commercial wine farm in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, was established in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell. The valley has since emerged as a crucial wine-producing region in South Africa, renowned for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals.
